Susannah Cuff

In the 18th century, Joseph Pratt II (who owned the current Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation along with three other plantations in the area), enslaved a woman named Susannah Cuff. We know very little about her, either from her youth in bondage or her later life in freedom. We guess that Susannah was born into slavery sometime around 1753 and was manumitted on July 26, 1775. We do not know if she had children, if she was married, or what became of her after manumission.

Below is a transcript of her manumission record from Goshen Monthly Meeting.

"Joseph Pratt sent a Deed of Manumission to this meeting which was read approved and left with the Clerk in order to be recorded as is requested & is as follows. [Illegible]
