REGULATIONS & GUIDELINES:
In order for your group to receive the maximum benefit from your visit to the Plantation, we have established a few regulations and guidelines.
We have set limits for the number of chaperones allowed to accompany our student visitors. Your group will receive the maximum benefits from their visit to the Plantation by adherence to the following guidelines at all times.
- For each group of 10-30 students, chaperones are limited to a total of 3 adults including the teacher.
- Additional support staff for special needs children is allowed but limited to one per child.
- Do not encourage additional adults to attend as we will not be able to accommodate them.
- You are responsible for the behavior and discipline of your group.
- Children whose behavior is particularly disruptive should be handed to the appropriate teacher as soon as possible.
- To insure that children are properly supervised, socializing with other chaperones is discouraged.
- We request that you refrain from smoking.
- The use of cell phones is not permitted. Please do not bring them on site.
- Please do not prompt children with the answers. We encourage independent thinking and participation from students.
- Please do not interrupt activities while our staff members are giving their presentations.
The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation staff thanks you for your cooperation. We hope you will enjoy your visit.
WEATHER CONDITIONS:
Sampler Workshops are held rain or shine. HOwever, due to the outdoor nature of our programs, tours, archaeology and mini-workshops do have to be cancelled on occasion due to poor weather. We monitor the weather every morning and, if things look bad, we will contact you by 7:00 a.m. If you are concerned about the weather and have not been contacted, please call 610-429-0308 between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. We have limited space on Mondays to reschedule a program which has been cancelled due to weather. Although it is your decision to cancel a program, we will try to assist you in making your decision.
ARRIVAL:
Please arrive in our parking lot at the time for which your program is scheduled. Wait at the gate, your guide will meet you there. If you arrive late, you can expect that your program will be shortened to conform to our schedule. If your group is more than 15 minutes late, we reserve the right to cancel your visit and reschedule it for another time.
SAFETY:
Please walk behind your guide at all times. Do not approach any of our animals unless invited to do so by your guide. Farm animals are not pets.
PICNIC FACILITIES:
We cannot accommodate picnics on our site, but there are several picnic areas in the Park including a small area at our parking lot. If you are part of a combination program (Tour/Mini-Workshop, Tour/Achaeology Workshop) be prepared to take your lunch break either on the grassy areas around our parking lot or on your buses.
CLOTHING:
Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for outdoor activities. If it is raining or threatening to rain, be sure to bring rain gear!
BATHROOM FACILITIES:
Our toilet facilities will be undergoing renovation during the spring/summer of 2007. Temporary facilities will be located on the premises near the barns. They are not close to the parking lot. Please have your group use the bathroom before they arrive at the Plantation. If you are coming into the Park via Gradyville Road, you can pass the Plantation entrance and look for the next parking lot on the left. Modern restrooms are located next to that parking lot.
